During the first days of November, 2024 a sampling campaign was organized to the area east from the Iron Gates and Oltenia Plain targeting the lower terraces of the Danube (T2 and T4). Main objective of the fieldtrip was to find outcrops exposing terrace material of the Danube, and to take samples for Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) age determination.
Four locations were visited on the right bank, Serbian side of the river in the in the Djerdap Geopark, and three locations were visited in the Oltenia Plain in Romania.
The sedimentology of the terraces has been described and samples were taken grain size analyses and for age determination using Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL).
