In October 2024, a field campaign was organized in Bucegi Mountains with the purpose of investigating a rock slope failure deposit previously identified on satellite images and in the field. This mass movement covers about 8 ha and has the characteristics of a rock avalanche which occurred on conglomerate rocks. Most probably, at least two different events led to the accumulation of this deposit. During the campaign, rock samples have been collected from seven boulders with the purpose of obtaining their terrestrial in situ produced cosmogenic 10Be surface exposure age, in order to estimate the timing of the rock avalanche event(s).
A high-precision UAV survey was also performed over the valley sector enclosing the rock avalanche deposit with a DJI RTK drone for obtaining aerial images to create a detailed numerical terrain model, which will be further used to characterise the morphometry of the deposit.
